Nancy Meyers Movie Interiors: "Something's Gotta Give"

Well, today is our last post in the Nancy Meyers Mini-Series.  I hope that you have enjoyed it, and I will include links at the bottom of this post so that you can easily access the other homes that we have explored.  Today we're going to take a look at the house from the movie Something's Gotta Give -- you know, the movie with Diane Keaton (love her)?  This home has appeared in many magazines and it is all over Pinterest...it seems that people go crazy for the interior design and decorating that makes this home so special.  So today, we're ending our series with a bang with one of the most beautiful movie interiors I have ever seen -- let's take a look!

There is such a perfect contrast on this staircase -- dark meets light -- and it is echoed in the wood accents around it.  And that blue lamp -- love!  (Rene from Cottage and Vine just completed an awesome lamp makeover, and it looks so much like this one!)

A luxurious office area overlooks a giant wall full of windows -- ideal for inspiration.  The primarily white color palette is accented with deep wood tones to create an exceptional warmth throughout the space.

I need this closet.  I love how everything is tucked away, but still viewable through windowed doors.

Again, a white/cream color palette is warmed up with rich woods.  Love that china display, too!  In my future woodsy vacation home, I need a display like that!  ;-)

Oh my gosh -- this kitchen!  My favorite aspect is the stove and the range hood.  *Swoon*.

This is the famous room that has shown up in magazines, Pinterest boards, and many other blogs -- and for good reason!  Expertly styled, looking polished yet lived in, and so very cozy.  I just love that rug!

Okay, time for the what's-your-favorite-part game!  Tell me!  :-)

love,
maria

*I hope you have enjoyed this mini-series as much as I have loved sharing it with you.  If you would like to check out more Nancy Meyers Movie Interiors...*

Nancy Meyers Movie Interiors: "The Parent Trap"

I remember how excited I was to see The Parent Trap with my dad when I was a young girl.  I had been waiting and waiting to see it, and finally the day came, on a daddy-daughter date, no less.  It was so much fun, and even then, I was captivated by the interiors that were brought to screen -- the gorgeous Napa estate, and the sophisticated London home.  I loved them both for different reasons, but each one felt warm and welcoming, and over the years I have watched that movie over and over again, always picking out things that I love about the interiors.  Do any of you have a movie like that?

This movie is just another example of how Nancy Meyers puts so much thought into her projects...the homes utterly and wholly represent their inhabitants, and there's a very complete feeling that I get when I watch her movies; like the characters have been both fairly and expertly represented.  She is, without a doubt, amazing at her job.

Here we have the crisp, white exterior of the English home.  I love the neutral steps, the deep black door, and that glorious lantern.  Simple and beautiful.

This is the greenery-covered home in Napa.  To.die.for.  It is warm, rich, and welcoming -- not too overdone.  Just look at those arches and shutters.  Swoon!

The very large patio in the Napa home is set up with different conversational spots throughout, and I love that.  Oversized furniture is balanced with a small lantern overhead.

Just look at that huge fireplace in the Napa home!  Oh my gosh. Oversized artwork, upholstered chairs just begging to be sat in, and a worldly rug...accented with urns and warm tiling.  Yes, please!

A beautiful curvy staircase inside of the London home makes me squeal!  I love the gallery wall all the way up the stairs; effortlessly chic.  The dark railing, rust walls, and charming coat rack are among my other favorite aspects of this home.  :-)

Looking back, which home is your favorite from The Parent Trap?  Why?

love,
maria

Nancy Meyers Movie Interiors: "The Holiday"

Ahhh, The Holiday.  In our house, this is the first Christmas movie of the season that we play -- usually right after Thanksgiving.  This movie marks the beginning of the Christmas season for me, and once that season is over, I don't watch it again until it comes back!  How many of you love this movie?  And how many of you ooh and ahh over the interiors of both the Los Angeles house, and the Surrey cottage?  :-)

Continuing with our Nancy Meyers mini series, we are going to take a peak inside these two lovely homes today, and I can't wait!

Here is the outside of Amanda's home in California.  I love all of the flowers and the tree coverage, and the welcoming vibe I get from that pretty wreath hanging on the door!

This is the outside of Iris' English cottage. It's so lovely I could cry.  I adore those faint blue window trimmings and door; this home definitely has the charming factor!  ;-)

Amanda's Los Angeles living room -- lots of big, cushy furniture and deep accent colors that warm up the space.  Very contemporary.

Another angle.

Iris's living room -- lush, cozy furniture upholstered in both country and contemporary prints.  I love her tufted ottoman doubling as a coffee table, too!  I dream of having something like that someday.  And can we avoid commenting on how lovely that fireplace is?

Another angle.

Here is Iris's beyond-adorable kitchen.  I love the little eat-in area in the center, and the blue of the cabinets mirrors that of the trim on the outside of her house.  Another fireplace in this space just adds to the sweetness.

I love Amanda's kitchen, too!  Much more modern and angular, but very chic, open, and airy.  I also really like the dark and the light color contrast here.

Amanda's den -- very hip with the whole wall dedicated to DVDs and a television with a large screen.  I love the cozy chairs with the lights coming from the shoulder -- this space is very well-planned.

Here is Iris's version of a den: A little reading nook.  I love this space and could absolutely see myself cozying up in that chair and grabbing a book or two off the shelf.

Iris's bedroom is full of rich color tones, creating such a wonderful cottage-y warmth.  Another fireplace sits inside of this bedroom providing comfort in the cold winter months.

Amanda's room is soft and simple -- and symmetrical.  I like how the bed is perfectly flanked by two huge windows.  The fuzzy rug makes the room look so inviting -- don't you just want to rub your feet on it?

Iris's bathroom is the quintessential cottage bathroom -- so tiny, so rustic, and so sweet.  Check out that tub!

Amanda's bathroom is quite luxurious and spa-like -- something you would find at an incredibly nice resort.  So gorgeous!

Okay...time for the what's-your-favorite-house game!  :-)  Mine would definitely have to be Iris's cozy English cottage...  Now I want to hear yours!

love,
maria

Nancy Meyers Movie Interiors: Father of the Bride

Last week for our Nancy Meyers mini series, we took a look at the home from It's Complicated, and you can check that out here.  This weekend, we're going to look at the beautiful, traditional home from Father of the Bride!

How many of you love this movie?  I've gotta say, if it is not my absolute favorite, it is definitely in my top three.  The first time I remember watching it was with my family in a cabin up North, and I think I was about eleven or so.  My dad told me that he loved Steve Martin's character in the movie, and I remember wondering to myself if my own daddy was going to act that way when it was time for me to get married.

And then my wedding day came, and it was perfect for so many reasons -- but one of those reasons is because of my dad.  I could feel his love for me radiating from his smile, and our walk down the aisle is something I will never forget.

It comes as no surprise to me now, especially, that when I watch Father of the Bride, I get emotional.  I cry, and it really just warms my heart and makes me want to call my daddy to tell him I love him.

But bringing us back to the interior of the home from this favorite movie of mine, I am so thrilled to feature it today!  It is so traditional, with hints of country French, and it is one of those interiors that just makes you feel right at home.

What do you think?  Do you like this traditional style?

And do you love Father of the Bride as much as I do?

love, maria

The Nancy Meyers Mini-Series

I am a raging fan of chick-flicks.

I have a huge selection of them that are constantly in rotation in my DVD player.  My poor husband.
;-)  I am not too terribly picky when it comes to chick-flicks.  I love most girly things that I watch, or I find things, scenes, characters, or accessories to love enough that I watch the movie over and over again.  But among my favorite movies, there is a common thread -- they are all Nancy Meyers movies.

In this month's Elle Decor magazine, I stumbled across a mini article about Nancy Meyers and her work.  She is a master at set design, and all of her creations are executed in the most beautiful, elegant, and delicate way.  I loved a part of the piece where she said that she loves her job so much because she can't redecorate her home every couple of years, so instead she gets her design fix with her movies.  :-)  That made me smile.  This is a woman with an impeccable eye who truly loves what she does -- and it shows.

I thought that once a week for the next several weeks, we could dive into some of my favorite movie interiors that all have the Nancy Meyers theme in common.  :-)  I had such fun gathering the photos for these posts, and I can't wait to share them all with you!  We'll look at the Father of the Bride all-American decor; the cozy, warm cottage from The Holiday; the contrast between the London and Napa homes in The Parent Trap; and more!  It'll be fun, and I'm so glad to have you with me!

We'll start this week with It's Complicated...

I absolutely adore this movie -- it's definitely in my top three favorites.  Meryl Streep is so wonderful in her role as mother of three, ex-wife of one truly adorable Alec Baldwin, and blooming 'girlfriend' to lovable Steve Martin's character, Adam.  This beautiful ranch-style home is where she resides, and the inside is even more gorgeous than the outside!

The living room -- a warm place with beautiful built-in bookshelves and a fabulous furniture set-up perfect for conversing.  I love how the chairs seem to 'talk' to one another.  And of course, those luscious beams on the ceiling -- they really cozy up this space!

A lovely, traditional bathroom complete with a claw-foot bathtub.  There is something so sweet in this room's simplicity.  It is almost to the point of shabby chic, which I love, but still maintains a really well-planned and put-together look.

A stunning hallway with archway after archway.  I love the visual effect of looking through many doorways, which end up leading into the final doorway of a room at the end of the hall.  Such great design!  And that chandelier?  LOVE!

Okay, don't even get me started on this kitchen.  I am in deep love here.  Chaos meets utter perfection; I just can't get enough of the open shelving to display all of the creamy white dishes contrasting with the copper and stainless steel metals of the pans on the opposing side.  I love galley kitchens, and this one is fabulous because it is open on both sides -- easy entry and exit!

The upholstered butter yellow barstools -- simply delicious.

I love this dining room that lays right outside of the kitchen.  Another archway stands between the rooms to give them a separated feel without there needing to be a door -- essentially keeping the floorplan open and airy.  I love the burnt orange seat cushions -- adding warmth to a white room with accessories and furniture.

I'm totally loving the symmetry in this room with subtle differences like the side tables and the lamps.  The colors are, again, warm (like the rest of the home!) and the contrast really works beautifully.  And the wooden bench at the foot of the bed?  I cannot get over how simply awesome that is.

What is your favorite room of this home?

Have you seen It's Complicated?  Is it one of your favorites, too?

love, maria
